The UK Academy of Therapeutic Arts and Sciences
Incorporating the Washington School of Clinical and Advanced Hypnosis (Est 1996)
The UK Academy of Therapeutic Arts and Sciences is the new name for the Coaching and Therapy Institute (CaTI) which was founded in 2002 by Fiona Biddle and Dr Shaun Brookhouse.
The mission of the Academy is to advance the professional practice of the therapeutic arts and sciences through the provision of high quality courses and excellence in the support of our students, members and associates while recognising that the needs of the public who receive the therapeutic services are paramount.
The UK Academy not only trains therapists, but also publishes books on relevant subjects. In 2006, the Academy amalgamated the Washington School of Clinical and Advanced Hypnosis as their Hypnotherapy Practitioner Division.
The Washington School of Clinical and Advanced Hypnosis (WSCAH) was founded in 1996 and has been training successful hypnotherapists ever since. The mission of The Washington School is to be a “Centre of Excellence” for the training of Clinical Hypnosis and Neuo-Linguisitcs. Dr. Shaun Brookhouse is the Principal of the School and lead trainer on the Washington School Programme in Manchester and London. Other centres are run by qualified trainers chosen specifically by Shaun for their expertise, commitment and skill. All trainers have a lively and provocative style of lecturing which makes training a memorable experience.
Shaun is also a trainer of hypnotherapy trainers for the oldest and largest hypnosis society in the world, The National Guild of Hypnotists. Our trainings are about empowerment, both on an individual and professional level. The UK Academy is actively involved in the hypnotherapy profession on both a National and International Level. We support efforts into the standardisation of hypnotherapy training standards and professional ethics and practice via our involvement in key hypnotherapy bodies in the UK and US. Shaun and UK Academy Vice Principal, Fiona Biddle were part of a small group of professionals who drafted the National Occupational Standards for Hypnotherapy in 2002.
The UK Academy is staffed by either qualified educators (CertEd, PGCE, FAETC) or those actively working towards these credentials. Additionally, all staff are certified professional instructors of hypnotherapy (via the National Guild of Hypnotists). We are the only school, as far as we are aware, committed to having our programmes delivered by qualified teachers as well as qualified clinicians.
UK Academy is accredited by many prestigious organisations including

* the National Guild of Hypnotists (USA)
Shaun is a past Chairman of the National Council for Hypnotherapy and is the International Affairs Officer for the National Guild of Hypnotists, as well as being on their Board of Advisors and a Board Certification Examiner.
In 2000, UK Academy incorporated the Core Curricula of the National Guild of Hypnotists into our internationally recognised Diploma in Clinical and Advanced Hypnosis. We are also recognised for the Nationally Accredited Hypnotherapy Practitioner Diploma through the National Council for Hypnotherapy and the NCFE National Awarding Body.
